ABOUT THE GCC

The Global Credit Certificate (GCC) is a professional qualification awarded by the Global Institute of Credit Professionals. It provides a structured foundation in credit analysis, combining technical knowledge with practical application and real‑world decision-making.

The GCC is designed for professionals working in, or moving into, credit-related roles across corporate and banking sectors and private credit. It is suitable for individuals developing their expertise and organizations building capability across credit teams.

The qualification is relevant to both buy and sell-side professionals, particularly those in:

  • Corporate and commercial banking
  • Risk management
  • Credit departments
  • Capital markets
  • Credit research
  • Investment management

The GCC provides a rigorous, practical grounding in credit analysis, helping participants make informed decisions and communicate effectively. It focuses on real-world application rather than theory alone.

The GCC is a structured, two-level qualification with assessments. Our short courses typically focus on specific topics, while the GCC provides a broader, end‑to‑end understanding of credit risk and decision-making.

PROGRAM AND SYLLABUS

The GCC syllabus provides a comprehensive foundation in modern credit analysis, combining technical principles with practical application.

It includes:

  • credit risk frameworks
  • financial analysis
  • decision-making processes
  • behavioral considerations
  • emerging topics such as sustainability, private credit and AI

  • Level 1 builds the analytical core, covering qualitative and quantitative principles, fundamental credit risk assessment, and the essential frameworks used across traditional and private credit markets.
  • Level 2 focuses on applied judgment, testing candidates through real cases, practical scenarios and behavioral‑finance concepts that drive credit decisioning in institutional settings. It includes a deeper examination of AI in credit, a dedicated exploration of the private credit market along with other evolving forces reshaping today’s credit environment.

The time required varies depending on prior experience and study approach. We expect the qualification to take between 50-100 hours of study for each of the two levels. Candidates with no previous experience, who are starting fresh, are likely to need around 100 hours of study (including classroom). Active professionals are likely to need around 50 hours (including classroom).

The shortest time to complete the qualification is 3-6 months for both levels combined, depending on candidate’s experience.

DELIVERY AND LEARNING OPTIONS

The program is delivered by experienced practitioners from the GICP faculty, combining industry expertise with practical training experience.
Our faculty bring expertise across areas such as corporate credit analysis, ratings, risk management, and financial modeling, and combine industry experience with extensive training delivery across global audiences.

Participants can choose from:

  • live training (in-person or virtual)
  • self-study

Candidates learn using detailed study notes covering the entire syllabus and via the eLearning resources. All of the candidate learning resources are available via the online learning portal.

Candidates can access course materials and eLearning via the online learning portal as soon as they have been registered. It is recommended that the candidates complete self-study before coming to the classroom training. Candidates starting the GCC are recommended to follow the study guide.

Participants have access to learning materials, practice questions, and mock exams to support preparation.

The GCC is delivered globally, across major regions including EMEA, the Americas, and APAC.

EXAMS AND ASSESSMENT

The GCC consists of two exams:

  • Level 1: 80 multiple-choice questions, three hours
  • Level 2: 50 questions, including case-based scenarios, three hours

The exams can be taken remotely or in-person. With remotely invigilated testing, candidates can sit exams at any time and from anywhere in the world. In-person exams are available worldwide at Pearson VUE’s 5,500 testing centers across 180+ countries.

  • Level 1 tests understanding of core principles of credit analysis
  • Level 2 focuses on applied skills and real-world decision-making

Yes. Candidates must successfully complete both levels to earn the qualification.

The GCC pass mark is not published. However, we recommend that candidates aim to achieve 75-80% in the mock exams for both levels. Achieving the score means that they should be well prepared to pass the actual exams.

REGISTRATION AND PRICING

The GCC is open to both individuals and organizations. It can be taken independently or as part of wider training initiatives.

You can register through the GCC cohort page. For larger groups, please contact us.

The cost includes access to learning materials, training (depending on the selected option), and exam entry for each level.

The GCC is a designated qualification so customization is not possible. There is, however, flexibility in the delivery method (online-only, in-person, and self-study), as well as the remotely invigilated exams.

MEMBERSHIP AND RECOGNITION

MICP (Member of the Global Institute of Credit Professionals) is the professional designation awarded to individuals who complete both levels of the GCC.

Candidates will receive their certificate after successfully passing Level 1 and Level 2 exams. Successful candidates will be eligible to use the professional designation ‘MICP’ (Member of the Global Institute of Credit Professionals).

GCC alumni gain access to ongoing development through the Institute, including learning resources, events and industry insights.
